Student- Can someone help me make my assignment as per the Harvard style of formatting?
Assignment Desk- Yes! We can!
Our assignment writing experts have given a basic guide to format your assignment as per the Harvard style. This guide will clear all the clouds of confusion pertaining to this style.
Basically, this style is applied to the five sections of your document viz.,
I. The cover page,
II. The header,
III. The content,
IV. The in-text citations, and
V. The reference list.
This write-up is too divided in these five sections. Time to explore each of these sections one by one.
Section 1: The Cover Page
It is the first section of your document that the professor will be reviewing, make it perfect by adding the following elements in it:
- Write the title of your academic paper half way down the page and capitalize it.
- Leave nearly 3 lines below that and write the name of the author (your name in this case).
- Move down to nearly 4 lines and present the following information in the same order:
- Name of the class,
- Name of the professor,
- Name of the school/university,
- The city and state where the institution is located, and
- The date of submission.
The template of the same will look similar to the image given below:
Section 2: The Header
If you notice the image given below properly, you will find that there is a header running in the top right corner of the cover page. Well, that brings us to the second section- The Header. In order to add a perfect header, here are some basic points to keep in your mind:
- It comprises of a short description of the title and the sequential page number.
- It is always justified to the right.
- The space between the partial title and the sequential number is exactly five in number.
Section 3: The Content
Next comes the information that you will be sharing in your document. The basic formatting rules for the same are:
- The sub-points are always italicized.
- Whenever there is a change in the major topic, give it a new heading.
- Make use of transitions words like similarly, therefore, etc. to link the paragraphs.
Section 4: In-Text Citations
If you are writing any quote, excerpt, or someone else’s work in your document, you should use in-text citations for the same. However, to make sure that you use them perfectly, here are a few points to consider.
- If the author’s name is in the text:
Author’s surname... text... (year, page number).
Example: Joseph found in her study on canine that... (2019, 34).
- If the author’s name is not in the text:
The text... (Surname, initials. year, page number)
Example: A study on canine showed that... (Joseph, M. 2019, 34).
Section 5: Reference List
Well, depending on the resources from which the information has been gathered, there are different rules of adding the same in your reference list. However, below given is the referencing style for the three most used resources.
Book:
Author’s Last Name, First Initials., Year of Publication. Title of book capitalized like a sentence. City of Publication: Publisher.
Example:
Joseph, M., 2019. How a canine changed my life with his four paws?. Cambridge: Belknap Press.
Article:

Internet:
